Nissan: Squeak From Fuel Pump

Nissan: Squeak From Fuel Pump

Nissan fuel pump squeak repairCustomer may report a squeak noise that is:

• Coming from inside the vehicle;
• Happens after driving for 30 minutes;
• Is coming from under the vehicle or from the left rear area of the vehicle.

If you confirm that a “squeak” noise is coming from inside the fuel tank when driving over bumps and with the fuel tank one-half full or less, first confirm that it is not coming from the hood rubber bumper stops. Those rubber bumper stops can produce a similar squeak sound.

To isolate the squeak, apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the top face of the bumper stops.

• If the noise stops, this tech tip does not apply. Refer to the ESM for the rubber bumper stop adjustment procedure.
• If the noise does not stop, continue with this tip.

Repair Actions

1. Make sure the spare tire is securely attached and not the source of squeak noise.
2. Replace the fuel pump and seal (packing). Refer to section FL in the service manual for fuel pump replacement information.
3. Test drive the vehicle to confirm the squeaking noise is gone.

Honda Oil System Inspection

The leading cause of low oil pressure-related complaints with Honda vehicles is the oil level.

Just about every engine lubrication system, including Honda’s, operates the same in theory. An oil pump generates the pressure, oil is sent to oil galleys, and then flows back into the pan. In practice, however, it is much more complicated. An oil system practically manages a controlled leak into the oil pan.
