Description:

During the initial glow phase, after switching the ignition “On,” the ECM performs a check of the glow plugs through the glow plug control module, to ensure the correct glow plugs are installed. If the engine is cranked during this check, lowering the system voltage, the ECM may receive an incorrect reading and set incorrect glow plug faults.

A glow plug control module with a revised diagnostic strategy is under development.

Service:

DO NOT replace any components for faults P06C5 through P06C8.

  • Instruct the customer to slow down their starting of the vehicle to avoid cranking during the glow phase.
  • For “Key-Start” vehicles: Switch the ignition key to the “On” position and observe the glow plug light, once the glow plug light goes “out,” start the vehicle. Avoid cranking the engine while the glow plug light is illuminated.
  • For “Push Button Start” vehicles: Depress the start/stop switch once to switch the ignition “On” and observe the glow plug light, once the glow plug light goes “out,” press and hold the start button a second time to start the vehicle. Avoid cranking the engine while the glow plug light is illuminated.
