Tech Tip: Dodge Hard or No Start During Cool Weather

A hard or no start condition during cool weather, with hard fault code 22 in memory (non-magnum engines), may be caused by defective coolant temperature sensor (CTS) wiring connections.

Models affected:
• 1988-’93 Caravan 2.5L, 3.0L; and
• 1990-’93 Caravan 3.3L.

Symptom: Hard or no start during cool weather, with hard fault code 22 in memory (non-magnum engines).

Problem: Defective coolant temperature sensor (CTS) wiring connections.

Test & Fix: The CTS sensor resistance should be 7,000-13,000 ohms at 70° F. If it isn’t, replace the sensor. If the sensor values are OK, proceed with the wiring repair by installing a new pigtail connector #4414901 and heat-shrink tubing #4419644.
