In October, 1980, the magazine that spawned this website had its first birthday. Gary Gardner, publisher of the print publication back then, explained how proud the entire staff was to celebrate a full year of service to this industry.

A year? Hmmph. ImportCar is now in our 42nd year – and parent company, Babcox Media, is celebrating 100 this year!

But what Gary said then resonates just as strongly today: “You may think that a magazine is a ‘thing’ since you can hold it like this. But it’s not. A magazine is intangible. It’s a set of thoughts assembled according to its creators. So you see, the magazine is actually the means we chose to communicate our ideas.”

The great news is that 41 years later, we can still communicate this way – but now we can also use enewsletters, video, websites and a variety of other means to get our message to you, the reader.
