Engines sealed with Federal-Mogul’s Fel-Pro PermaTorque MLS (multi-layer-steel) head gaskets swept the top seven and nine of the top 10 positions in Sunday’s NASCAR 5-Hour Energy 500 Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.
Six of the top-10 cars at Pocono were powered by Chevrolet engines equipped with Fel-Pro PermaTorque MLS #26452 head gaskets, while two Toyotas (Fel-Pro #1190 L/R) and one Dodge (Fel-Pro #26480 L/R) rounded out the top finishers.
Fel-Pro PermaTorque MLS head gaskets are composed of multiple layers of full-hard stainless steel, precisely engineered sealing beads and advanced polymer coatings to maintain contact pressure between the cylinder head and block despite often extreme horizontal and vertical engine casting motion. All PermaTorque MLS gaskets used by NASCAR teams also feature the brand’s latest sealing innovation: the LaserWeld stopper layer.
“Fel-Pro LaserWeld technology allows us to design stopper layers of different thicknesses, widths and shapes to address the unique requirements of each NASCAR engine platform,” said Fel-Pro Performance Gaskets Chief Engineer Greg West. “NASCAR engine builders want to run a larger grill opening to help cool the engine, while crew chiefs want a small opening that provides better aerodynamics and handling but usually means higher coolant temperatures. LaserWeld technology allows us to optimize sealing for each engine under these conditions.”
PermaTorque MLS gaskets also feature the brand’s advanced rubber coating technology, which accommodates a wide range of surface finishes and ensures superior sealability in all applications.
