A turbocharger can spin at more than 100,000 RPM. Even a small piece of debris can cause damage to the blades of the compressor’s turbine. What protects the turbine is the air filter. If the air filter or housing is damaged, it can allow unfiltered air to reach the turbocharger. The signs of a damaged turbocharger could be noise, loss of power and codes related to a loss of boost.
