Nissan Suspensions: Inspection And Restoration

It is not uncommon to see the Nissan V6 or four-cylinder engine in a Maxima, Altima or Sentra go more than 300,000 miles without a major issue – the same is true for the chassis. But depending on roads it traveled, the suspension needs just as much or more attention when compared to the engine.

Fuel System Diagnostics Is All In The Fuel Trim Numbers

With lean-burn operating strategies being built into many of today’s gasoline direct-injection and gasoline compression ignition engines, it’s important to build a foundational knowledge of how fuel trims work in the real world.

Nissan LEAF Wins 2019 Connected Green Car Of The Year

The Connected Green Car of the Year award is given to the model that most significantly raises the bar in environmental performance while also connecting vehicles to our lives, other vehicles, and in some cases, transportation infrastructure.

The Battery Electric Revolution

The term “electric vehicles” (EVs) has now evolved to “battery electric vehicles” (BEVs) to differentiate battery-powered electric from fuel cell-powered electric vehicles. Why BEVs? First, and from a manufacturer’s point of view, BEVS meet all federal and state vehicle emissions requirements without continually modifying complex engine designs, catalytic exhaust systems and engine management software.

Nissan Tech Tip: Permanent DTC (P-DTC) Information

Starting with 2010 Model Year, Nissan vehicles have been gradually incorporating a new type of DTC known as “Permanent DTC or P-DTC.” If a vehicle is equipped with P-DTCs, all emission-related DTCs will also set a P-DTC if the MIL is turned on.

Infiniti Tech Tip: Cruise Control Will Not Set And DTC P0605 Is Set

Improper adjustment or operation of the ASCD brake switch can cause the Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) to “not set” and/or DTC P0605 (ECM) to store. If a malfunction in the ASCD system is detected, the CRUISE indicator may stay ON and the “SET” indicator may flash.

Nissan Tech Tip: TPMS Diagnostics

If the TPMS/LTPWS warning light is illuminated (continuously or flashing), the TPMS/LTPWS system can be diagnosed by turning the ignition to the “OFF” and then to the “ON” position. If the TPMS/LTPWS warning light is continuously illuminated (not flashing), the TPMS/LTPWS is operating normally and has detected low tire pressure in one of the tires.

Nissan Variable Compression: The Engine That Will Change Performance & Service

The new Nissan 2.0 L VC-Turbo (Variable Compression Turbo) offers similar performance figures to the 24-year-old 3.5 L V6 that it replaces, while providing 4-cylinder fuel economy. The first vehicle to receive the engine in the Nissan lineup will be the 2019 Altima SR. While it might be a few years before this engine is in your bays, the preparation and training needs to start now, not when you are stumped with a problem.

Nissan PCM Computer-Control Issues

The American writer Irene Peter said it best: “Just because everything is different doesn’t mean anything has changed.” By 2018, I thought everything had changed since the days of On-Board Diagnostics I (OBD I). Since OBD I evolved into OBD II in 1996, many things did indeed appear to be different. But, once in a great while, engineers design a vehicle that is slightly ahead of its time. For me, it was a 1995 Nissan pickup equipped with the 3.0-liter V6 engine and manual transmission. Surely being an oddity, it would start and run with the distributor disconnected.
