Wideband Oxygen Sensors Vs. Narrowband: Understanding The Differences
Wideband air/fuel oxygen sensors may appear similar to conventional narrowband oxygen sensors, but there are quite a few differences that you need to be aware of to service vehicles with this new style sensor.
New Snap-on TPMS4 Tool Tests Sensors, Captures Data, Relearns TPMS
Snap-on introduced its new Tire Pressure Sensor System Tool Kit, a unique diagnostic tool that tests tire pressure monitoring sensors, captures sensor data and relearns tire pressure monitoring systems. An all-in-one tool for multiple vehicle applications, the TPMS4 features vehicle-specific prompts and reset procedures following tire rotation and sensor replacement. “The Snap-on TPMS4 quickly diagnoses
Testing Active Wheel Speed Sensors
The best tool for testing the active speed sensor is a good scanner, preferably one that can show the separate speed sensors in graph form. A lab scope is probably the best for a more precise answer and can be attached directly at the sensor to read the individual sensors or wires, rather than the entire system as with the scanner.
Rethinking Fuel Pump Diagnostics And Sensors
The technician diagnosed the 2011 Rogue as a bad fuel pump by squirting propane into the air intake. With propane, the engine runs, without propane, it stalls. But, after the fuel pump was replaced, the Rogue exhibited the same problem, which was a very slow, unsteady idle followed by an engine stall.
Catalyst Efficiency Monitors: What Are The O2 Sensors Telling The PCM?
The catalyst efficiency monitor verifies that the catalytic converter is operating at a high enough efficiency rating to keep exhaust emissions within the predetermined values. The PCM compares the signals from the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors to determine the state of the converter. These “tests” are called readiness monitors.
Oil Level Sensors – More Than A Warning Light
Oil level sensors have been used on import and domestic cars for more than a decade. Some of the first applications only monitored if the oil level was low using a switch attached to a float. The sensor would just trigger a message or light in the instrument cluster and only measured oil levels when the engine was not running.
Electronic Brake Pad Wear Sensors Diagnostics
Electronic brake pad wear sensors can be found on a variety of vehicles, including domestic, European and Asian cars and trucks. These give a more accurate reading on brake pad depth compared to squealer metal tabs that make noise that most drivers manage to ignore assuming it will go away over time.
Wheel Speed Sensor: Understanding ABS Brake Passive Sensors
The passive wheel speed sensor has been around a long time. It works quite differently than the active speed sensors that are found on most cars today. The passive speed sensor creates its own AC signal that changes frequency with wheel speed. This signal is only present while the wheel is turning at a rate fast
Servicing TPMS Sensors With A Little Tender Loving Care
Most TPMS sensors are held in with the use of just a screw or a nut, but if they are not assembled or torqued properly, the results can be catastrophic. Carelessness can result in a broken sensor or even a customer being stranded with a flat tire.
NGK Spark Plugs Introduces 76 New NTK Oxygen Sensors For The North American Market
The NTK product line expansion is designed to support newer applications and provide coverage for more than 20 million additional domestic and foreign vehicles in operation.
