Colorado Shops Reaching Out to Technicians Who Lost Tools in Hurricane Katrina

The 43 Colorado Select NAPA AutoCare Centers have decided to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. They are looking in their own tool boxes and pockets for tools and money to take to Biloxi, MS, to re-equip technicians so they can get back to work.

After Hurricane Katrina, many repair shops were washed away leaving auto technicians without the tools or equipment to get a city back on its feet again.

The 43 Colorado Select NAPA AutoCare Centers have decided that they want to help. The techs from these AutoCare Centers are looking in their own tool boxes and pockets for tools and money to take to Biloxi, MS, to re-equip technicians so they can get back to work.

Automotive technicians own an average of $50,000 in tools. Most shops in the Biloxi area were open air, keeping tools in cages that Katrina washed away. For most of these technicians it would be impossible to replace this lifetime investment and very few can afford to insure their tool boxes.

In addition to these efforts, the NAPA AutoCare Centers are asking their customers to help by donating tools they do not need or money that will used to buy tools under a special arrangement with NAPA who will match any funds they collect.

One of the AutoCare Center owners, who has family in the area and ties to the community, will be organizing getting tools to technicians with help from some vendors.
