If you like the idea of getting paid to get training that will just about guarantee you a job, Tom Berryman is the man to see.

Berryman runs the Alabama Center for Automotive Excellence at Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, which has kicked off a partnership with Fiat-Chrysler, Mopar and the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3).

“What this provides is a great opportunity for young people to come through this program and get their level zero and level one training which allows them to go right into any Fiat-Chrysler dealership and get a job that leads to a great career in technology…and support their family,” said NC3 Executive Director Roger Tadajewski.

Tadajewski and Berryman joined Lawson State President Dr. Perry Ward and Fiat Chrysler officials in a closed-door meeting today to determine how Lawson could tweak it’s nationally recognized auto tech training program to meet the needs of Fiat and Chrysler dealers. Tadajewski says NC3, which seeks to promote partnerships between industries and educational instutions to create a well-trained workforce, is excited about working with Lawson State and says it is the organization’s first partnership in the South.

For Lawson State, the partnership will triple the size of its automotive program which partners with Ford, GM and Toyota, and allows students to earn money at dealerships during their training.
