Mazda has been making big waves in the automotive world with its SKYACTIV technology. Introduced in 2011 in the Japanese market, Mazda’s ultra high-compression, direct injection gasoline engines are achieving fuel economy numbers that rival many hybrids – and at much less cost. Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) has announced that it recently sold its 10-millionth vehicle in the United States, since starting U.S. sales operations in 1970. The 10-millionth vehicle, a 2013 Mazda3, was sold from Continental Mazda of Naperville, Ill., to Lauren Carter of Glen Ellyn, Ill. To celebrate this significant milestone, Mazda has replaced Carter’s recently purchased 2013 Mazda3 with an all-new 2014 Mazda3, and the 10-millionth vehicle will become a permanent part of the Mazda heritage collection.

Tech Tip: Generation 1 Wheel Bearings With Integrated ABS Tone Ring

The front wheel bearings listed in this Tech Tip all share a unique design feature. They are all double-row angular contact with a split inner ring. The distinctive feature on these bearings is that one of the two seals on the bearing has a built-in magnetic impulse wheel. Caution should be taken to make sure that the seal with the ABS impulse ring is installed in the correct direction.

Carefully inspect the motor boot or protective coverings. Be sure the connector seals can keep water and debris out. Check the wiring harness and connector. Replace or repair wiring as necessary. After installation, periodically select 4-wheel-drive mode to ensure operation when needed.
