Staying Ahead of The Curve In The New Year

Mary-DellaValleThe new year always brings new challenges as we resolve to set and reach new goals, like working both harder and smarter to stay ahead of the competition. And, just like you and your techs have to continuously fine-tune your skills through training and continuing education, the staff at ImportCar has been working to stay ahead of the curve in terms of what our publication has to offer.

So, just as your shop evolves and innovates to be at the forefront in your market, so too has ImportCar.

ImportCar will continue to be your trusted source for technical information on import vehicles, just as we have for the past 36 years. Within the pages of every issue, we will continue to deliver diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair information that will help you service imports with greater precision and accuracy, and keep you up-to-date on emerging service technologies.

But, this year we are stepping up our game when it comes to our digital offerings. The first thing you will notice is a newly enhanced email newsletter that will be delivered to your inbox every Tuesday and Friday. The new ImportCar newsletter replaces the AutoCarePro Import Edition eNewsletter that you previously received every Monday. Each issue will continue to deliver the technical repair content, up-to-the minute new product information, and shop management tips you need to run your repair shop more effectively, but will be even more tailored to the nature of your business.

Also, we are amplifying our social media presence on Twitter, Facebook and other platforms for 2016 to better connect with our readers. Please like us on Facebook at ImportCar and follow us on Twitter @Import_Car.

In terms of our core editorial content, we are pleased to announce we have also expanded our staff for the new year with the addition of industry veteran Donny Seyfer, who will serve as a regular columnist for ImportCar. Donny is the co-owner of Seyfer Automotive Inc. in Wheat Ridge, CO, and has 30 years of automotive experience as a technician, manager and service consultant. Donny is an ASE Master and L1 Advanced Diagnostic Certified Technician, ASE Certified Service Consultant, AMI Accredited Automotive Manager, and a two-time NAPA/ASE Regional Technician of the Year. He is also chairman of the Automotive Service Association.

As you work on ways to innovate, don’t lose sight of your core competencies and the solid framework within which you’ve built your business. Here’s to a successful and prosperous new year!

EV Charging

Charging will get better as technology improves and drivers change their behaviors.

I once worked with a technician you might call considerate. When he used a piece of equipment, he would ensure everything was clean and properly put away. For example, we had a five-gas analyzer used for state emissions testing. After every time he used the machine, the hose for the tailpipe probe was neatly coiled and hung on the machine. When he used the machine, the hose was laid on the ground and not dragged across the shop’s floor. He also was the guy who would dispose of the filters left in the oil drain by other technicians.
