Robby Gordon has added Andy McMillin to the co-driver slot on his off-road racing team, Team Gordon. Together, Gordon and McMillin will tackle the world’s toughest off-road races, with help from their professional crew and top-notch sponsor support. At 18 years of age, McMillin is the youngest competitor in history ever to race a trophy truck in the SCORE series. The Team Gordon Red Bull/Toyo tires truck will be campaigned for the full 2006 season. McMillin will share driving duties with Gordon in the Baja 500, Baja 1000, and will drive in the remaining four races in the SCORE series for 2006.
Gordon, a two-time winner of the Baja 1000 and defending champ of the Baja 500, has a full race schedule including the world famous Dakar rally. “As we continue to grow our company in all forms of motorsports including SCORE, NASCAR, Indy Cars and Dakar, we need to start building some of our programs around young capable drivers like Andy,” Gordon said. "Our families (the McMillins and Gordons) have raced against each other for more than 20 years, and having Andy drive our truck will allow us to again compete for a championship in the series that gave me my start in auto racing. Andy obviously has the potential to become a tremendous race car driver and it’s great to have him on our team as the first full-time driver we have ever hired at Team Gordon."
Grandson of off-road race legend Corky McMillin, Andy McMillin is a third generation off-road racer. He has been in, or around off-road vehicles since the age of four. "It is extremely important to me and my family to carry on the legacy and spirit that my grandfather started in off-road racing. We want to continue to push the limits of what is possible in off-road racing. The opportunity to drive with Robby is a dream come true," said McMillin.
The Baja 1000 will be McMillin’s last race in his JIMCO built Class 1 car, as he moves up to the Trophy Truck class. McMillin is currently third in points for the overall SCORE series in Class 1, a mere seven points behind his uncle Mark and only five points behind Damian Jefferies.
"We have a tight race going into the Baja 1000 and anything can happen. We are just hoping for a fast clean race, but a first and a second would be nice! We have done our homework by pre-running as much as possible and I can honestly say this is one of the roughest courses I can remember," commented McMillin’s father and driving partner Scott McMillin.
McMillin Racing and Team Gordon will be combining their race support resources for the upcoming SCORE race season. The McMillin Racing Team race support crew is well known for being one of the best in the business. Years of pre-running experience consistently give them an edge in any competition. The Team Gordon race support crew is known for their lightning fast NASCAR style pit stops. The combined crews will no doubt be the best race support in the business.
