Perspectives: Feedback About the Car Care Guide

Back in October, I introduced you to the Car Care Guide, the glove compartment-sized, 56-page “vehicle owner’s manual” that was developed by the Car Care Council (the national non-profit organization established to educate consumers about the benefits of proper vehicle care, maintenance and repair).

The goal of the guide is to build on the momentum of the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign, and serve as an independent resource when discussing recommended maintenance and repair with customers.

The following note was sent to the Car Care Council from a Guide user:

We have them in our service department and in our parts store, and they are definitely piquing some customers’ interest.

We are giving them away for free, so people are always surprised that something that looks so professional is free.

Our staff is certainly interested in them and checking them out with quite a bit of enthusiasm. I think that they are general enough that customers can see what they are supposed to be doing on their cars. Also, because they are published by a recognized name, I think it is a more credible source of information than it would be if we would have produced something ourselves.

I think it will help our service writers in the selling process as a customer can check the guide to see if he “really needs to be doing” what our service writer is recommending.

I’m certainly excited about having them available for our customers. We are planning on having another one of the “check lanes” set up in the spring, and plan to give away the guides to anyone who comes to have their car inspected. I anticipate that these will be a big drawing card.

Keep up the good work,
