Mazda Sales Off To Big Start In 2015

Mazda North American Operations kicked off 2015 with 20,271 vehicles sold in the U.S. in January, representing an increase of 7.7% versus last year. “Coming off our best sales year in 20 years, Mazda vehicle sales have continued the positive momentum into 2015,” said Ron Stettner, vice president of sales, MNAO. “Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 all performed very well in January and our dealers’ success is the product of focusing on fundamentals and building Mazda’s brand value with our customers.”

SkyActiv Technology

In January 2015, 86.8% of Mazdas sold were equipped with SkyActiv Technology, the company’s next generation platform. SkyActiv is designed to significantly improve engine efficiency thanks to its high-compression combustion, resulting in 15% increases in fuel efficiency and torque. A highly efficient automatic transmission achieves excellent torque transfer efficiency through a wider lock-up range and features the best attributes of all transmission types. In the chassis, a newly developed front strut and rear multilink suspension ensures high rigidity and lightness — the entire chassis is 14% lighter than the previous version.

Mazda CX-5 A Big Seller

Mazda CX-5 saw its best January ever with 5,949 vehicles sold and an increase of 19% YOY. This is the 12th consecutive month of YOY increases for CX-5 sales. The CX-5 was also the first model to fully adopt SkyActiv Technology for its engine, transmission, body and chassis.

Port fuel injection and direct fuel injection systems each have their advantages and disadvantages.

If you’ve serviced import vehicles for at least the past decade, you may have seen a Toyota vehicle that has both direct fuel injection and port fuel injection. You will see port fuel injectors in the intake manifold and a direct injection fuel pump. Toyota calls this system the D-4S or Dynamic Force Engine (the “S” stands for superior) and the earliest application was on the Lexus GS SUV with the V8. The D-4S system is not a “cold start” or “dousing” injector system, like that on V6 engines from the early to late 2000s.
