Introduction
Some 2011 model year GS 350 and 2011-’12 model year IS 350/350C vehicles may exhibit an intermittent flex lock-up shudder when lightly accelerating between 25-50 mph (40-80 km/h). Follow the procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.
Repair Procedure
1. Connect Techstream to the vehicle and perform a Health Check. Confirm NO DTC(s) are stored in the ECT or ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM).
Are there any DTC(s) present in the ECT or ECM (PCM)?
^ YES – This bulletin does NOT apply. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) and diagnose DTC(s).
^ NO – Go to step 2.
2. Test-drive the vehicle and confirm the condition.
3. Remove the transmission main connector and the SLU negative terminal from the vehicle side connector to disable the torque converter lock up clutch (See Figure 1).
4. Wrap the SLU negative terminal end with electrical tape to protect the terminal.
5. Reinstall the transmission main connector.
Note: DTC P2759 will set when the SLU negative terminal is removed.
6. Test-drive the vehicle. Is the shudder condition present with the SLU negative terminal removed?
^ YES – This bulletin does NOT apply. Reinstall the SLU negative terminal, reconnect the transmission main connector, clear all DTCs and continue diagnosis per the Repair Manual.
^ NO – Go to step 7.
7. Replace the torque converter.
8. Reinstall the SLU negative terminal in the transmission main connector and reconnect the connector.
9. Test drive the vehicle and confirm the shudder condition is eliminated.
