Volkswagen Launches “Release Your RRRR” Campaign
Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) unveiled the Unleash Your Rrrr site that allows Volkswagen fans to drive a virtual Golf R using only the sound of their voice. The web app utilizes deep learning, an artificial intelligence subset of machine learning, to analyze each user’s unique impression of the Golf R engine’s roar. It then generates a customized video of the 292-hp turbocharged Golf R model roaring through a racetrack, drifting, braking and more.
“The idea behind the Golf R ‘Unleash Your Rrrr’ was simple – imagination,” said Vinay Shahani, Vice President of Marketing for Volkswagen of America.
The new R model is considerably more fuel-efficient than its predecessor with an EPA estimated highway fuel economy rating of 30 mpg, up from 27 mpg for the previous, manual-transmission model. It can also complete the 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 4.9 seconds.
The New Suite of Infotainment Technologies Is Here
VWoA announced the introduction of its all-new MIB II infotainment system, available later this year on most model year 2016 Volkswagen products.
These features are divided into three key areas, each offering a unique set of customer benefits — “Security & Service,” “Guide & Inform” and “App-Connect.” “With the new MIB II infotainment platform, Volkswagen’s next generation of Car–Net connected services brings to market one of the most comprehensive suites of connectivity features ever available in an automobile,” said Michael Horn, president and CEO, VWoA.

The Jetta, which was refreshed for the 2015 model year and has a suite of available driver-assistance features, continued to show its strength as a core model, with 10,944 units delivered, an 8.3 percent increase over the previous June.
