2016 smart fortwoThe All-New 2016 Smart ForTwo

The new 2016 Smart ForTwo made its U.S. debut at the 2015 New York International Auto Show and will arrive in dealerships in September.

“The new Smart ForTwo adopts the proven [Smart] concept while offering more of just about everything — more space, more color, more equipment,” said Smart CEO Annette Winkler.

One notable feature is a state-of-the-art turbocharged three-cylinder engine that will be standard on the new Smart ForTwo. The turbo engine is rated at 89 horsepower. The 898-cc engine mobilizes a maximum torque of 100 lbs./ft. at 2,500 rpm. The new turbocharger features an electronically controlled wastegate, which enables increased engine dynamics in conjunction with a sustainable reduction in fuel consumption.

Apart from the turbocharger, a whole range of other technical measures also contributes to the engine’s excel- lent fuel efficiency and performance. These include variable swirl control and variable adjustment of the inlet valves.

The Concept GLC Coupé is a near-production- standard study that carries the successful GLE Coupé formula over into a more compact segment.

Hard technical details give an emotive appeal to the Concept GLC Coupé with its almost organic form of the main
body section. For example, excitingly designed components such as two-part, open light alloy wheels, wing-look exterior mirrors and the four exhaust tailpipes set a deliberate stylistic contrast intended to underscore the technological claim of the show car.

The same goes for the underbody protection, which features front and rear cooling ducts, and the headlamps and taillights that resemble light sculptures.

Mercedes-Benz ABC Suspensions

The system provides great ride & handling, but it can be complicated to service if you do not have the right training.

Mercedes-Benz uses two different adjustable suspension systems in its vehicles – Airmatic and Active Body Control (ABC). Airmatic, as the name implies, is its air suspension system which we discussed back in April of this year. ABC uses hydraulic fluid at tremendous pressures to actively change the stiffness of the springs inside the shock assemblies, changing vehicle dynamics and ride height. This can be done automatically based on sensor inputs and module programming, or at the push of a button located near the shifter.

Technical Service Bulletins can be valuable in helping solve vehicle problems. But sometimes, it takes multiple TSBs to find a pattern failure or the “root cause” of a problem. Why Do Turbos Fail?

In the 1980s, it was not uncommon for a turbocharger on some European vehicles to last only 30,000 to 40,000 miles.
