Eastern Manufacturing (EMI), a manufacturer of catalytic converters and related components, has just added a new 103,000-sq.-ft. facility that will be transformed into a state-of-the-art finished goods inventory and shipping center. This new purchase is on the property adjacent to the existing 115,000-sq.-ft. headquarters and manufacturing facility in Langhorne, PA. Combined with the current building and near by R&D facilities, this new purchase dramatically increases Eastern Manufacturing’s overall physical size to well over 253,000 sq. ft.

The announcement was made by George Schafer, president, who noted, “Eastern has enjoyed tremendous growth over the past few years, and this new addition could not come at a better time. It will put us into an excellent position to successfully and efficiently manage our growth, while meeting the individual needs of an ever expanding customer base. The new center will also free up valuable space in our current manufacturing facility and allow us to double our overall plant capacity.”

Eastern will utilize a complex conveyer system to provide a seamless incorporation of the new center into the workflow of its existing manufacturing facility. The conveyer system will be used to move finished goods from the manufacturing plant to the new center. The bar code and conveyer system will allow product that is ready for shipment to travel directly to the loading docks while overstock items are moved to finished goods inventory. Eastern will also use a full pallet transfer system to move large bulk packed shipments directly from manufacturing to finished goods.

Schafer added, “We are constantly re-investing in our business and are doing what is necessary to meet the future demands of our customers. We see the continued rise in parts proliferation and see the need to enhance our ability to keep all of the parts in stock that our customers need to capture sales immediately.”

The new facility also has additional office and conference capabilities, and will house some management, sales, and engineering staff.  The building had been previously used as a food storage building, so the added benefits of clean storage will insure that Eastern parts are clean and look their best when they arrive to the customer.

In its manufacturing facility, Eastern incorporates the latest advanced-manufacturing technology, including automated workstations, spinner welding equipment, and high-speed production lines, The facility also has its own tool and die department for developing new equipment and repairing or maintaining current production assets.
