As this photo might indicate, recharging a conventional flooded-cell battery can be dangerous. In this case, an excessively high charging rate over-heated the electrolyte, which caused hydrogen gas to vent from the battery’s cell caps. The hydrogen gas was then ignited by an external spark, which caused the battery to literally explode.
