Hyundai Alignment: Curing ‘Drift And Pull’ Conditions

Drift/pull conditions occur at all speeds. But, the amount of force on the steering wheel or steering angle will increase with speed. If the customer states the drift/pull problem is sporadic, the cause could be the stability control system, or the electric or hydraulic power steering system.

Understanding Hyundai TPMS

Hyundai started using TPMS in 2006 on the Hyundai Accent, Tucson and Veracruz. The carmaker equipped its other vehicles with TPMS starting in 2007. Hyundai has used several different suppliers for its TPMS systems, including Continental, Lear, Siemens and TRW. While each of these systems operate similarly, they do have slight variations. Make sure to check vehicle information and TSBs for specific variations.

Toyota/Lexus U151F Transmission Diagnostics

While the Toyota U151F transmission is found in a lot of Toyota and Lexus vehicles like the RX300 and RX350, it doesn’t have the greatest reputation among technicians and owners. Chances are you will not be rebuilding the transmission, but rather you will be listening to your customer’s complaint and diagnosing it. Knowing where to start is the most challenging part of the job.

Toyota Tech Tip: 3.5L V6 May Exhibit Oil Leaks For Cam Sensor Bolts

Toyota vehicles equipped with the 2GR-FKS 3.5L, 24-valve DOHC V6 may exhibit oil leaks from the cam sensor bolt holes. The sensors are in the valley of the engine. Toyota recommends replacing the camshaft housings head gaskets and valve cover gaskets with updated parts.

Kia/Hyundai Engine Timing System Guide

In the past 20 years, Hyundai and Kia have adopted the Greek alphabet letters to name their engines. To date, they have covered 11 letters of the alphabet. These engines range from 1.4L four cylinders to 5.0L V8s. Some of these engines overlap model years on a single model with multiple options for customers.

Lexus Air Ride Review

Lexus models, including the LS sedan, RX crossover and GX SUV, are some of the least problematic air ride vehicles on the road. In fact, most Lexus customers do not realize that their vehicle is equipped with an air suspension until something breaks. Like all air ride systems, if you are not familiar with the system operation, you can throw a lot of parts at it without achieving any results. Taking some time to look at the theory and operation sections of the service information can save you a lot of lost time speculating on the source of the problem.

Sensing Brake Pad Wear

Modern brake pad wear sensors can do more than just warn the driver of a worn brake pad. These new wear sensors work with the rest of the brake system and can estimate the mileage until the brake pads wear out.

Nissan Variable Compression: The Engine That Will Change Performance & Service

The new Nissan 2.0 L VC-Turbo (Variable Compression Turbo) offers similar performance figures to the 24-year-old 3.5 L V6 that it replaces, while providing 4-cylinder fuel economy. The first vehicle to receive the engine in the Nissan lineup will be the 2019 Altima SR. While it might be a few years before this engine is in your bays, the preparation and training needs to start now, not when you are stumped with a problem.

Toyota Avalon Brake Job: 2005-2012 Applications

In 2005, Toyota’s Avalon underwent a redesign of its third-generation model, which was larger than previous versions and much sleeker. The Avalon came in four trim levels: the standard XL, Touring, XLS and Limited. The XL included 16″ alloy wheels, while other trims came with larger 17″ wheels.

Acura: Brake Master Cylinder Leaking

A cup seal in the master cylinder is sensitive to the type of brake fluid used in the brake system. If the brake fluid is replaced with anything other than Acura (or Honda) Genuine DOT 3 Brake Fluid, and the brakes are manually bled, the cup seal may twist in its retention groove and create a small leak. The brake fluid can then leak into the brake booster, and the brake system indicator will eventually come on because the brake fluid level is low.
