Hyundai Turbocharged Theta And Gamma Engines

Hyundai has two four-cylinder engines that use a turbocharger. The Gamma and Theta turbocharged engines were introduced in 2010 for many Hyundai cars and trucks. These engines also have direct injection, which makes them even more efficient.

Diagnostic Solutions: How Electric Power Steering Systems Are Changing Undercar Service

Electric power steering contains a steering wheel position sensor and a steering input torque sensor. The data from these two sensors report to an EPS module, which translates the steering input torque into an appropriate level of steering assist via a pulse-modulated, bi-directional electric motor that’s connected to the steer gear input shaft or integrated into the steering rack assembly. The steering position sensor should read “zero” when the vehicle is traveling straight ahead.

Infiniti Tech Tip: Cruise Control Will Not Set And DTC P0605 Is Set

Improper adjustment or operation of the ASCD brake switch can cause the Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) to “not set” and/or DTC P0605 (ECM) to store. If a malfunction in the ASCD system is detected, the CRUISE indicator may stay ON and the “SET” indicator may flash.

Hyundai Tech Tip: Engine Vibration Due To Misaligned Timing Marks On The Oil Pump

This bulletin provides information regarding the proper indexing of the timing marks of the Oil Pump Module during in-vehicle installation, specifically on vehicles equipped with Theta four-cylinder engines.

Diagnosing Active Motor Mounts On Asian Vehicles

Many automakers, including Toyota and Honda, have changed their lineup of engines to improve fuel economy and emissions. Gone are the high-revving 1.8L and 2.0L four-cylinder engines. Replacing them are engines with displacements ranging from 2.3L to 2.5L. These engines are more efficient and produce more power lower in the power band. But, these new engines increase the stroke and not the bore, making for some unique vibration conditions the motor mounts have to minimize.

Scan Tool Freeze Frames: Using Generic Data To Make A Specific Diagnosis.

More than 20 years ago, automakers and the EPA developed the standard that we know today as OBDII. This standardized many of the onboard emissions protocols and codes and allowed states to perform onboard emissions testing. For technicians, it opened a whole new world of diagnostics. As time passed, even large trucks and motorcycles adopted

Hyundai Tech Tip: Fuel Sender Circuit Checks

Some customers may complain of an erratic or unresponsive fuel gauge or a fuel gauge that does not reach the full level after filling the fuel tank.

Kia Soul Brake Job: 2009-2013 Applications

Brakes on the Soul are conventional single-piston calipers and four-wheel discs on most trim levels and very straightforward to service. Some of the basic trimmed models had drum brakes in the rear.

VIDEO: Honda’s ACM Active Motor Mount System

Jason Stahl discusses active motor mounts, specifically Honda’s ACM system, and how it communicates with the BCM. Sponsored by Intermotor.

Nissan Tech Tip: TPMS Diagnostics

If the TPMS/LTPWS warning light is illuminated (continuously or flashing), the TPMS/LTPWS system can be diagnosed by turning the ignition to the “OFF” and then to the “ON” position. If the TPMS/LTPWS warning light is continuously illuminated (not flashing), the TPMS/LTPWS is operating normally and has detected low tire pressure in one of the tires.

Subaru Tech Tip: Front Crankshaft Oil Seal Replacement Tip

Subaru has updated the procedures and tools needed to enhance retention of the oil seal and eliminate any chance of blocking the oil return passages in the timing chain cover.

Kia Tech Tip: Poor Windshield Washer Performance

Possible foreign debris can accumulate on the windshield washer pump inlet filter and cause a weak spray. Over time, this can cause some Kia vehicles to exhibit a limited application of windshield washer fluid when the washer function is used.
