Winner Named in CARQUEST/Champion Spark Plugs Sweepstakes
Raleigh, NC – Tom Smith, a CARQUEST technician from Meshoppen, PA, was named the grand-prize winner in the “Winning Combination” sweepstakes sponsored by CARQUEST and Champion Spark Plugs. The sweepstakes featured a crossword puzzle in which professional technicians and CARQUEST counter professionals answered basic questions about the features and benefits of CARQUEST Spark Plug Wire Sets and Champion Spark Plugs. All correct entries received from Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, 2004, were eligible for the random prize drawing.

As grand-prize winner of the sweepstakes, Smith, an ASE-certified master technician specializing in engine diagnostics, will receive a CARQUEST Limited Edition Racing Toolbox/Cabinet Combination. The toolbox/cabinet combination comes stocked with Blackhawk’s 220-piece Professional Technician’s Master Set and seven-piece Combination Screwdriver set. Five hundred first-prize winners will receive a choice of one of five die-cast engine replicas, produced by Liberty Classics, Inc.


EPA to Audit OEM Website Content
Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced in early January that it will conduct an audit of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) websites. The audit will be conducted to gather feedback from the technician community on their experiences with the websites. According to a press release from the Automotive Service Association (ASA), the EPA has formed a small steering committee to oversee the evaluation. The committee is comprised of 15 industry representatives from OEMs, tool companies, repair facilities and aftermarket associations.


ITW Performance Polymers Acquires Permatex
Danvers, MA ‹ ITW Performance Polymers recently acquired Permatex, Inc., a well-known producer of sealants, adhesives, and other products for the worldwide automotive aftermarket and the industrial maintenance and repair market.
Founded in 1909 to sell shellac for bonding bicycle tires to their rims, Permatex soon entered the automobile maintenance market, using professional auto racing to prove the performance and promote sales of its gasket cements and threadlocking adhesives. The company¹s extensive product line includes Permatex adhesives and sealants, Fast Orange hand cleaners, No-Touch automotive appearance products and NOS performance-enhancing fuel additives.

According to Mike Underwood, vice president and general manager of ITW Performance Polymers North America, Permatex will become a subsidiary of ITW Performance Polymers and the Permatex brand name will be retained. ITW Performance Polymers is a world leader in adhesive technology. An Illinois Tool Works Company, ITW Performance Polymers manufactures and sells adhesives and sealants for original equipment manufacturing as well as for maintenance and repair.
