ZF Aftermarket Announces 2018 Technical Training Class Schedule

Topics scheduled for the year include modern chassis technologies, VW/Audi DSG transmission diagnostics and an overhaul class.

ZF Technical Training has announced its 2018 ASE-certified training classes. Topics scheduled for the year include modern chassis technologies and VW/Audi DSG transmission diagnostics and an overhaul class. These new hands-on trainings offer technicians a unique and directly job-applicable learning opportunity.

Hands-On Technical Experience

The mission of ZF Technical Training is to provide in depth knowledge of automotive technology to industry students, technicians and industry professionals. By implementing customized and engaging programs, technicians become prepared to diagnose, repair and service products in the industry.

“It is important as an organization that we support the independent aftermarket shops in our country and provide them with more opportunities to expand their knowledge and skill level,” said Dirk Fuchs, ZF Aftermarket, technical training manager. “Independent aftermarket shops face more challenges than others in the industry; it is our job as a manufacturer to support their education on the latest technology in the automotive aftermarket.”

Opportunities for All

To start the year off, ZF will focus its training programs on modern chassis technologies as well as dual-clutch transmission diagnostics and operations. “These topics continue to evolve in the automotive aftermarket – making them difficult to understand,” said Fuchs. “Because of their difficulty, ZF wants to provide more opportunities for individuals to learn about the changing technology and the best practices for maintenance.”

Class Information

The ZF Technical Training course list and schedule is as follows:

VW/Audi Dual-Clutch Transmission Operations & Diagnostics
April 14 in Vernon Hills, Illinois
Dec. 1 in Houston

Modern Chassis Technologies
June 9 in Norwood, Massachusetts
Aug. 18 in Northville, Michigan

Attendees can expect an in-depth training class for each of the above topics, covering the topics technicians need to know. Technicians will head back to work with direct job application knowledge and a renewed confidence in managing the topic at hand.

The VW/Audi Dual-Clutch Transmission training will start with the fundamental facts about a double clutch transmission. The double clutch is a wet clutch system and the participants will learn how this technology works as well as common failures and diagnostics. Some highlights of topics covered include assembly and disassembly of the whole unit, service information, gear torque flow, shifting strategy and review of special tools needed.

Modern Chassis Technologies training reviews the foundation of chassis dynamics, detailing chassis angles and how these angles are influenced with different settings. Highlights of the class agenda include review of the multi-link system, differences between electric and hydraulic steering systems and the latest technology related to driver assist functions, and settings of radar and radar systems. The short version of this new class will be introduced at Vision Hi-Tech Training and Expo.

More to Come

2018 has brought tremendous expansion for the ZF Technical Training department, with the addition of a new technical trainer in early February and now the launch of its ASE-certified classes.

“We are excited to launch our ASE-certified trainings to the market; we have some incredible training opportunities planned and cannot wait to share them with the industry,” said Fuchs.
