Tech Tip: Subaru Electric Parking Brake Inoperative

This bulletin announces a new replacement EPB actuator assembly to address DTC C0251. In isolated cases, the automatic calibration function of the EPB actuator may not always occur when turning the ignition on.

This bulletin announces a new replacement EPB actuator assembly to address DTC C0251. In isolated cases, the automatic calibration function of the EPB actuator may not always occur when turning the ignition on. As a temporary result, the EPB may not function, the brake system warning lamp will flash to alert the driver, and DTC C0251 will be stored in memory. The EPB will resume normal operation on the next key cycle.

• Self-Locking Nut 02350800

When replacing the EPB2 Actuator assembly, follow the complete service procedure in the applicable service manual. As part of the service procedure, the fuel tank protector will need to be removed. The four self-locking nuts securing the protector are one-time use items and must be replaced during reassembly. The torque specification for these nuts is 9 Nm (6.6 foot—lbs).

After EPB actuator assembly installation is complete, the Force Sensor Calibration Mode must be performed with the Subaru Select Monitor following the procedure in the applicable service information.
