Nissan Diagnosis Of Poor Acceleration Or Lack Of Power

Nissan Diagnosis Of Poor Acceleration Or Lack Of Power

Customer describes lack of power or poor acceleration on Nissan vehicles with an electric throttle chamber. Perform the following checks before attempting any repair.

Models: All Nissan vehicles with an electric throttle chamber

Complaint: Customer describes lack of power or poor acceleration.

Solution: Perform the following checks before attempting any repair:

• Check for stored DTCs.

• Check if the driver is resting his left foot on the brake pedal while accelerating. Advise the customer not to rest his foot on the brake while accelerating.

• Use a scan tool to check operation of the brake lamp circuit signal. Monitor the brake switch during the incident; it should be “OFF.”

Causes of brake switch “ON:”

• Brake switch incorrectly adjusted (switch is adjusted ON when it should be OFF).

• Damaged brake lamp wiring/circuit (damage causes signal to ECU to show ON when it should be OFF).

Note: Refer to the service information for correct brake switch adjustment and/or circuit diagnosis as applicable.

Toyota Direct Injection? Port Injection? Why Not Both?

Port fuel injection and direct fuel injection systems each have their advantages and disadvantages.

If you’ve serviced import vehicles for at least the past decade, you may have seen a Toyota vehicle that has both direct fuel injection and port fuel injection. Toyota calls this system the D-4S or Dynamic Force Engine (the “S” stands for superior) and the earliest application was on the Lexus GS SUV with the V8. The D-4S system is not a “cold start” or “dousing” injector system, like that on V6 engines from the early to late 2000s.
